Stainless Steel Air Shower

A stainless steel air shower is a self-contained cleanroom entry chamber that uses high-velocity, HEPA-filtered air jets to remove loose particles from personnel or materials before they enter a controlled environment. It is commonly installed between a changing room and an ISO/GMP cleanroom in pharmaceutical, biotech, electronics, laboratory, hospital, and precision-manufacturing facilities.

How it works

  1. The person or trolley enters through one interlocked door.

  2. HEPA-filtered air is blown from rotating stainless-steel nozzles at roughly 20–25 m/s, dislodging surface dust and particles.

  3. The contaminated air passes through pre-filters and HEPA filtration, then recirculates.

  4. After a preset cycle—often adjustable—the exit door unlocks and the user enters the cleanroom.

Typical construction

Component Common specification
Body material SS304 stainless steel; SS316 may be specified for corrosive or high-hygiene environments.
Filtration Pre-filter plus HEPA filter; some models specify 99.999% efficiency at 0.3 micron.
Nozzles 12–18 rotatable SS nozzles, depending on unit size.
Air velocity About 20–25 m/s at the nozzle.
Doors Manual or automatic swing/sliding doors, usually interlocked to prevent both doors opening together.
Controls PLC/microprocessor timer, emergency stop, lighting, and adjustable shower duration.
Configurations Single-person, double-person, tunnel, L-type, and cargo/material air showers.

Where it is used

  • Pharmaceutical and API manufacturing cleanrooms.
  • Biotechnology, microbiology, and research laboratories.
  • Medical device and surgical instrument production areas.
  • Electronics, semiconductor, and precision-instrument facilities.
  • Food processing and hospital sterile areas.
